A podcast is an audio program that is available over the Internet. It can be broadcast live and/or it can be recorded for visitors to listen to at their leisure.
One of the aspects of podcasting that makes this marketing technique so attractive is that your target market can play the podcast on their computer, download it to their mp3 player and stream it over the internet to their iPhone.
There are podcasts on virtually every subject under the sun. You can listen to comedy, drama, shows on business, finance and marketing, public speaking, learning a new language and even shows on how to improve your grammar. Who would have guessed?
How Does It Work?
In order to produce a podcast you’ll need a topic to speak on that people want to hear, a computer, a microphone, a sound editing program, a place to store your sound files on the Internet and a piece of software that will allow your guests to lisent to your show on your website or blog . Should You Podcast
Yes. You should podcast if you enjoy speaking and have a message that lends well to audio. It’s also a great tool to give your market an opportunity to know you on a level they can not acquire through reading text on your website.
I would also suggest you podcast if it’s important that you be seen as an expert in your field. When people hear your voice on the Internet, you become a mini-celebrity. This alone will draw people to you, particularly if you have a meaningful, well organized message.
No. You should not podcast if speaking is not your thing or if you have a product or service that does not lend well to audio. Mark Twain once said, “It’s better to keep silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
